Dirty Girls

Third wave thirteen-year-old feminism, 1996.

This short documentary was shot in California by film maker Michael Lucid while still at school 17 years ago, where he became acquainted with the so-called “Dirty Girls”. The all-female friendship group were  ostracised by their peers for their apparent reluctance to conform and—as rumour had it—wash, but reacted by distributing their strongly opinionated zines across school campus.
