eVe without adam is pleased to present the book „Idylle“ by the Parisian artist Safia Bahmed-Schwartz, as her first show outside of France. The book presentation and art exhibition will run for one month, at Berlin‘s Torstraße within the creative space of BOLD ROOM. On August 17th, there will be an opening reception with a book signing of the artist, drinks and sound by eVe resident Dreea (Bone Sauvage).

Safia Bahmed-Schwartz was born in Strasbourg in 1986. From a very young age, her fixation was Vincent van Gogh.

She was forced to wear the veil and suffered from intense discrimination and ridicule after 9/11. She decided to leave her life behind and trot the globe. Not making art, but surviving through illegal actions. From France all the way to Bangkok, Dakar, New York, Tokyo, Montreal, Los Angeles and Geneva. As criminal investigations begun to arise, her fixation could prove costly. It was then when she began to rediscover her art.

She grew up in an era when women wore the power suit, yet she wore the veil. Through her art, she found her escape.

Running her own publishing company under Bahmed-Schwartz Editións, she released the 14×9cm „Idylle” on July 1st, 2012, a collection of daily color pencil drawings.

The work’s title emphasizes the contrast between the idyll which evocates marvel and idealism, and the artist’s sketches illustrating love in its true form, characterized by its beaming sexuality. Her illustrations present two worlds trying hard not to collide. They switch from a silent tension between bodies, to a climatic intersection between man and women.

The artist will also be showing a series of drawings and the exclusive masterpiece of the exhibition, a paper sculpture car-crash during her first solo exhibition in Berlin. The book and drawings will be for sale at BOLD ROOM until September 14th, 2012.
