“Image Movement is delighted to present the film screening ‘California Snow Stories’ with films by Kenneth Anger, Deborah Ligorio, Babette Mangolte and Detlef Weinrich.
The programme ‘California Snow Stories’ scrutinizes how specific geographical sites can be represented in the medium of film. The link between the selected works is their emphasis on the element water.
Babette Mangolte and Deborah Ligorio focus on bleak or spatially confined places as the island, the beach, or the desert which are approached through movements of driving or circling. In the films by Kenneth Anger and Detlef Weinrich we are observing an observer whose romantic sight keels over in a unreal seeing. Besides the opposition of natural elements the films also draw attention to different possibilities of orientation within a terrain.”
