“In conjunction with the current international group show Fully Booked: Ink on Paper, Gestalten invites you to an evening with the critically acclaimed book designer Coralie Bickford-Smith from Penguin Books, one of the most renowned publishing houses worldwide.
Fully Booked: Ink on Paper celebrates the physical expression of print storytelling, glorifies non-digital, and takes pride in featuring print products at the vanguard of a new era for printed publications. Young contemporary designers, publishers, and editors are embracing the debate and taking this opportunity to design and conceptualize the book as a physical object more than ever. Combined with the vision and imagination of a designer and publisher, book design becomes not just an illustration of the story, but also a vital element of the narrative self.
Coralie Bickford-Smith will relate her “life in a bookshelf,” outlining the progression of her career and explaining how she designs book covers through a sequence of books that has influenced her life and made her career such a success.
Robert Klanten, Gestalten’s publisher will then give a brief presentation about Fully Booked and highlight some of the most striking examples that are pushing the boundaries of conventional book design. A conversation with Coralie Bickford-Smith will follow.
A selection of books designed by Coralie Bickford-Smith from Penguin’s Clothbound Classics series are available for sale and showcased in the exhibition Fully Booked: Ink on Paper at Gestalten Space.”
